When constructing your fence, remember that dinosaurs are pretty big things; as such, you should aim to build a fence that’s around 4-5 pieces high. The best place to build a Tree House base is Redwood Forests which is directly southwest of Red Peak. Ark has many strange quirks of its terrain that with a little creativity and a lot of annoying snap points, can actually become signature features of your Arkitecture. I would suggest building in stone only or a rex might do some serious damage. Put the "important" stuff in the center of the base, away from those walls. If you have half a dozen high level Rexes tamed, or decide to put down a ton of species X/Turrets then it might not be such a worry, but personally I like having the extra level of safety plus large taming pens.
